About Callie
Lover of people, hoarder of art supplies. My creative inclinations have wandered from portraiture to fine art and I have had so much fun learning ways to combine old and new. Most of my artwork draws from my time as a portrait photographer, and I absolutely love pairing them with found letters dating back to the late 1800s. Living in Savannah, my imagination is constantly running wild with possibilities. I am often so inspired from found treasures- whether that be from antique stores that are basically Disney World to me, or found relics from the banks of Moon River. This space is a collection of everything I love that brings me great joy- I hope to share a little of that with you!
I have always been an old soul- drawn to vintage letters, film cameras & antiques. One of my most prized possessions is a set of 300 love letters between an engaged couple living in Savannah in the 1930's. The wife was a painter so many of the letters have watercolor splattered clues as to who she was. I imagine this relationship blossoming on the very same streets of Savannah that I stroll through in present day and I am completely awe struck.
I am fascinated by relics of what once was and feel connected to their stories by appreciating and bringing new life to these objects. Before my grandmother passed away I made cuttings of all of the plants familiar to me around her house. I remember adoring them displayed on her vanity while I watched her curl her hair and put on lipstick. Having a living reminder from that exact same plant she lovingly cared for helps me to feel close to her every single day. For that reason I love to incorporate dried flowers and floral motifs in my artwork.
